Your domain name is the address by which
people access your web site. (Our domain is CilwaStudios.com.)
While you don't have to have a domain name to have a web
presence, it will be difficult for people to find you without one.Cost: $10
One of the most challenging aspects of establishing a Web presence is
that of obtaining and registering a domain name. Ideally, your domain
name will be the same as the name of your business:
Sadly, all the most obvious web domains are "taken". Some belong to
legitimate businesses, while others are "parked" by investors who hope
you will want that domain so badly you are willing to pay big bucks for
it. However, if you can come up with a name that isn't already
taken, it should cost you less than $10 a year to register it. (This is
part of Cilwa Studios' service, but it isn't difficult to do on your
own.) To check to see if the domain you want is available,

companies actually find an available domain name first, then name
the company that! If your first choice isn't available, you may be
able to register an alternative, using a prefix or suffix. For example,
if your company is called "Cher Cuts", and chercuts.com is taken,
how about chercutsonline.com or cher_cuts.com or
getchercuts.com? (We can help you find alternates if needed.)
Having a domain name does not, in itself, give you a web presence. It's
simply the address people will use to find it once it's been created. In
addition to the address, you will need a host. The next page
addresses that issue. |
