Now that you have an idea what you
want on your web site, and
you have a domain name for it,
it's time to find some real estate to put it on. In other words,
you'll need a web host.Cost: Starting at $5 a month
Your site will have to be hosted by a computer that is attached to the
Internet 24/7 and is configured to be a web
host. Some larger companies do their own
hosting (but, then, they generally do their
own design, as well). We'll be happy to
recommend several web hosts that charge
reasonable rates and let you know what our
experience with each has been.
Some web designers also host the sites
they design. If you decide to go with such a
host, be certain you know whether they are
hosting on Unix or Windows computers (it's a
dependability issue); how
they have protected themselves (and your web
pages) from hacker attacks; and what their
documented down-time percentage is.
Web hosting generally costs from $5 to
$50 a month. This site costs us about $5
a month in hosting fees.
Once you have your domain name and host
set up, you can publish your site.
Your web site designer should do this at no
extra cost. Any time a change is made to the
site, whether large or small, it must be
re-published (and most site designers do
charge for such maintenance). Maintenance Cost: $10 per page changed
